Curious About Watercolor

Image
In last Friday's Without a Net Creativity Workshop, among other projects, we messed around with watercolor. Here are a few examples of students' projects. See the full story (Curiouser and Curiouser) about the class on withoutanet.blog.

Photos from Hambidge

Image
In November I enjoyed an artist residency at Hambidge Residency Center in North Georgia. Here are a few of the thousands of images I took, mostly for my new paintings. To read more about my adventure, check out my Without a Net blog. The above image is from the Hambidge grounds. They own 600 acres in the breathtaking North GA mountains.  My studio table I'd break the internet if I posted all the mushroom photos I took. Here is one. There were several site works of art in the woods. We visited a few of the other artist studios.  We had a little fall color left. It was chilly, which meant less sweat and fewer ticks. The many pools and ponds made for good reflection photos.

My Newest Paintings

Image
Heaven's Sweetest Air These paintings were completed in the last few months. The bear is a departure, as it is an animal (unclothed) in its natural habitat. I loved doing the landscape so much that I might explore the genre a bit. All paintings are oil on board, were finished in 2017 and measure 16" x 20." Without a Net News

Image
This Saturday I am hosting my first Without a Net Workshop at Red Dot Gallery. I am pleased to offer this work to others, and if all goes well I hope to offer it in different venues. A short description is below, and a longer one is here . In the same vein, check out my new post on WithoutaNet.Blog .  Here is  a short description:  In the spirit of my artistic explorations in my own paintings, Without a Net workshop will offer participants creative exercises in various artistic media that explore personal mind states and perspectives in a judgment-free setting. With humor and self-acceptance as touchstones, participants will explore their own mind states, both light and shadowy, to engender courage, promote self-honesty, and acknowledge the universality of human frailty. The practices will fuel creative thinking while helping to develop resilience and equanimity. The group setting enhances a collective, unifying experience that facilitates growth and under...

Roadscapes Revisited

Image
After several years of being exhibited at a gallery in San Fransisco, these pieces were sent back to me. It was like Christmas morning, seeing these paintings I did quite a while ago, as if I'd opened a time capsule. Each is 5" x 7" and all are oil on copper. They depict places around the country from the time I lived on the road in a motor home with my ex husband. This series was reviewed in the Los Angeles Times years ago when they were exhibited at Frumkin Duval Gallery in LA. I'll post a link soon. In the meantime, here's a link to the book I wrote about our 3 years on the road: The Freeway
