Curious About Watercolor

Image
In last Friday's Without a Net Creativity Workshop, among other projects, we messed around with watercolor. Here are a few examples of students' projects. See the full story (Curiouser and Curiouser) about the class on withoutanet.blog.

Photos from Hambidge

Image
In November I enjoyed an artist residency at Hambidge Residency Center in North Georgia. Here are a few of the thousands of images I took, mostly for my new paintings. To read more about my adventure, check out my Without a Net blog. The above image is from the Hambidge grounds. They own 600 acres in the breathtaking North GA mountains.  My studio table I'd break the internet if I posted all the mushroom photos I took. Here is one. There were several site works of art in the woods. We visited a few of the other artist studios.  We had a little fall color left. It was chilly, which meant less sweat and fewer ticks. The many pools and ponds made for good reflection photos.

Student Paintings This Week

Image
Eileen Cohn Here are some gorgeous paintings finished by Red Dot students this week. I'm so proud for my talented, hardworking, fun, and delightful friends. The two shoe paintings were not an assignment, just a coincidence.  Bev Spahn Dale Turnbough Nancy Lewis Jack Branch (age 84)

My Newest Paintings

Heaven's Sweetest Air These paintings were completed in the last few months. The bear is a departure, as it is an animal (unclothed) in its natural habitat. I loved doing the landscape so much that I might explore the genre a bit. All paintings are oil on board, were finished in 2017 and measure 16" x 20." Overboard at the Folk Museum

Image
A Mexican baptism Daughter Annabelle began her summer job working backstage for the Santa Fe Opera this week. She and I drove there from Alabama and enjoyed an art exploratory trip for fun. These are images (the first set of many that will follow in subsequent posts) of the International Folk Art Museum in Santa Fe. A massive room held dioramas of dolls and figurines from cultures around the world. The exhibit was such a departure from the usual art museum fare that I had fun pulling together a photo essay that would explain why I spent so much time there.  Forgive my lack of notations on which country the figures represent. The information at the museum was not easily accessed and I got lazy. I did my best, and welcome your guess in the comments.  Eskimos I'm thinking Eastern European African Japanese
