Student Paintings This Week

Image
Eileen Cohn Here are some gorgeous paintings finished by Red Dot students this week. I'm so proud for my talented, hardworking, fun, and delightful friends. The two shoe paintings were not an assignment, just a coincidence.  Bev Spahn Dale Turnbough Nancy Lewis Jack Branch (age 84)

My Newest Paintings

Image
Heaven's Sweetest Air These paintings were completed in the last few months. The bear is a departure, as it is an animal (unclothed) in its natural habitat. I loved doing the landscape so much that I might explore the genre a bit. All paintings are oil on board, were finished in 2017 and measure 16" x 20." Botanical Benefits

Image
Recent regular morning walks at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens have given me less exercise than usual because of my very frequent photo stops. Our gardens are magnificent, free, and are so well-cared-for it seems like worker gnomes must be on duty at all times.

Happy Faces

A few faces from our daylily beds this morning. My husband is promising to name one of his hybrids after me. Can you guess which?

Spots Running Out

I finished and sold this painting recently. No title or meaning yet. Stay tuned. There are a couple spots left in my Without a Net creativity workshop, Saturday, April 29. Here is a link to all the details.

Without a Net News

Image
This Saturday I am hosting my first Without a Net Workshop at Red Dot Gallery. I am pleased to offer this work to others, and if all goes well I hope to offer it in different venues. A short description is below, and a longer one is here . In the same vein, check out my new post on WithoutaNet.Blog .  Here is  a short description:  In the spirit of my artistic explorations in my own paintings, Without a Net workshop will offer participants creative exercises in various artistic media that explore personal mind states and perspectives in a judgment-free setting. With humor and self-acceptance as touchstones, participants will explore their own mind states, both light and shadowy, to engender courage, promote self-honesty, and acknowledge the universality of human frailty. The practices will fuel creative thinking while helping to develop resilience and equanimity. The group setting enhances a collective, unifying experience that facilitates growth and under...

Thank you to all who donated diapers during our December Diaper Drive to benefit the YWCA in Birmingham. We created quite a work of art at the gallery with them.

Annabelle DeCamillis and I designed this year's poster for our neighborhood open house which was held last night. It was fun seeing it all over town. The winner of our drawing for a free class was Norah Lunsford!
